    Why we became a B Corporation

    We at Outland Denim HQ love supporting Certified B CorporationsⓇ. You just know that your purchase is going towards a brand that values transparency, sustainability, and community. It’s like supporting a good friend. So when the opportunity for Outland Denim to become a Certified B CorporationⓇ arose, we of course didn’t hesitate. In 2018, Outland Denim became Australia’s first denim label to become a Certified B CorporationⓇ, and the second globally.

    For people who want to work for, buy from, and invest in businesses they believe in, the B CorpTM logo has fast become a near universal signpost. The encircled capital ‘B’ is the mark of a brand who believes that business can be used as a force for good.

    The B CorpTM certification is globally recognised, with 60 countries, 2,595 companies and 150 industries under the B CorporationⓇ umbrella. Other brands in the “B Economy” include Patagonia, Veja, Nisolo, KOTN, Accompany, Etiko, Tony’s Chocolonely, Stone & Wood, Ben & Jerry’s, and Eileen Fisher just to name a few.

    Unlike traditional corporations, Certified B CorporationsⓇ are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on all stakeholders, must achieve a minimum verified score on a B Impact Assessment, and are required to recertify every two years against evolving standards.

    To obtain B CorporationⓇ status, a company or brand must complete a comprehensive questionnaire, including substantiating evidence, followed up with a detailed interview and subsequent reviews with stringent guidelines.

    The process requires a significant commitment of time and resources for both the company concerned and B CorpTM but the result is mutually beneficial - an honest and true picture of the company is presented while adding to B Corp's vision of a global movement of people using business as a force for good.  

    “It is so important that there is an independent body who can evaluate and attest those companies who are making a positive impact on the world,” adds Outland Partnerships Manager Sally Townsend, who led the charge in the process of securing Outland’s B CorpTM certification.

    “It can be difficult for consumers to know which companies they can trust - the B CorpTM stamp makes this very easy.”
